A pleasing decorative piece, this little letterbox was made by the Army & Navy Co-op Society Ltd, originally formed in the 19th century by army and naval officers who clubbed together to buy wine at wholesale prices. They also later manufactured items for retail, as was the case with this lovely piece. It will make a great little storage box for smaller items, or simply ornament a room. – Brass letter slot at the top. – Painted sentry in a kilt behind the glass panel. – Image is interchangeable, with a wooden panel at the back which can be removed for replacement. – Ivorine label inside showing “Army & Navy C. S. L. Makers”. – Overlapping wood slats on sides, back and roof. – Front door pulls open to reveal internal space. Date: Circa 1890-1900 Material: Wood Origin: England
